Calm, Cool, Competitive...Proven!

Bolero 897 is a handsome, modern type Swedish Warmblood stallion approved in Sweden and imported to the US in 2001. Bolero is a Premium A stallion, a coveted breeding classification that is awarded to stallions who pass on good performance qualities to their offspring. He offers excellent dressage credentials and renowned Grand Prix bloodlines including the legendary elite dressage stallions Chagall, Bernstein, Napoleon and Utrillo.

Bolero is a proven sire. In the 2008 ASVH Dressage BLUP, Bolero ranks 5th in Dressage with a score of 141 out pacing all of his of famous relations! The BLUP is a prediction of the breeding potential of the individual based on results from the three year old and quality test up until 2008 and on competition results spanning from 1961-2007. Despite his export in 2001, Bolero has remained in the top 10 of the BLUP Index (placing as high as 2nd) as a result of the first-rate performance results of his
older get.

In Sweden, Bolero produced over 66% Diploma and Class I Dressage talent offspring. Twenty-two percent of this offspring received Class I or Diplomas in jumping talent. In the US, 100% of his offspring received Class I Dressage talent. Two colts by Bolero are on planning to participate in the 2009 young stallion tests.

As a youngster, Bolero placed sixth at the Breeder's Trophy finals in dressage at the age of five in 1996. The following year he moved up to fourth place. Bolero was first licensed in 1997. The test riders praised his gaits and ability. His canter received a 10!

Stallion committee comments: "Masculine stallion with long lines; Long well shaped neck, good shaped saddle position and long croup. Ground covering walk. Free in the shoulders in the trot with the hind legs put well underneath. Trot is very elastic and powerful." Bolero’s conformation scores as a 6 yr. old were: Type 8; Head/Neck/Body 9; Legs 8; Walk 8; Trot 9 for a total of 42 points.

As a seven year old, Bolero made his first appearances at the FEI level. As a result of several good performances in Intermediare I and Prix St. Georges, he received his "Grade AB" stallion license in 1999. In 2007, Bolero was awarded Premium A breeding status based on the exceptional results of his offspring in Sweden.

Classic Bloodlines…..Modern Type

Bolero’s pedigree is comprised of the top dressage bloodlines in the world. Champions of their Stallion Testings, Olympic Competitors, sires of Elite stallions--an amazing assembly of extraordinary sires and dams have clearly passed their tremendous traits and talents on to Bolero.

Bolero's sire, Bernstein 761, ranks ninth in 2008 BLUP Dressage stallions. Bernstein won his stallion testing scoring 9's on his trot and canter. This popular Elite stallion sired three approved stallions, Bolero, Bayron 885, and Ravell amongst his 800+ offspring. Bernstein’s dam, Bristol Cream, and grand-dam, Bragansa are both elite mares.

Bernstein's sire, Napoleon 625, is ranked in the top five dressage sires of the World and sired over 900 offspring. His approved sons include Amiral (1996 Olympic Games and "10" gaits), Nactus (Stallion Test Champion), Bombay (Swedish National Grand Prix Champion and World Cup competitor), Gazpon (Stallion Test Champion & FEI competitor) and Zephyr (Stallion Test Champion). While Napoleon is considered to be a prominent sire of sires, he also produced many talented mares in both jumping and dressage.

Napoleon’s grandsire and Fairytale’s sire (Bolero’s dam) is the eminent Elite stallion, Chagall. Chagall ranks sixth in 2008 BLUP Dressage stallions. Chagall is the sire of several important stallions including Gauguin de Lully (1988 Olympic Team Silver and Individual Bronze medalist, Second in the 1989 World Cup Dressage Finals), Chapman 757, Taktik, Leroy, Genius, Nurejev III, Chirac 611 and Zorn. He is also the great grandsire of Master 850 who is the sire of two 2007 World Cup Dressage finalists, Tip Top 962 and Max.

Chagall is by the famous Hanoverian sire Utrillo 432. Utrillo was born in 1962 in Hannover and later imported to Sweden. In his time, Utrillo was ranked 1st in the BLUP index as a sire of jumpers and 8th in sire of conformation horses with an overall score of 97%. Total BLUP Index score of 123. Utrillo is a foundation sire for the Swedish Warmblood breed producing top competition horses and elite stallions including Maraton 600, and Bonaparte 566.

Fairytale’s dam line includes two more super star stallions, Piaff and Gaspari. Fairytale’s dam , Frida, a premium elite mare, is by Piaff, who with Liselott Linsenhoff, won the European Championships 1969 and 1971, the individual Gold medal at the Munich Olympics 1972 and the Silver at the World Championships in Aachen 1970 and again in Copenhagen 1974. Piaff also sired Miss Piaff, full sister to Frida, who competed internationally at Grand Prix. In Harry Boldt’s book," Das Dressurpferd", Herbert Kuckluck says that Piaff was "A stallion with the ideal requirements for a dressage horse".

Piaff’s sire Gaspari 340, is arguably one of the most renowned Dressage stallions in history. He was born in 1949 in Sweden sired by Parad, a son of Humanist. He was an International Grand Prix competitor that participated in the 1960 and 1964 Olympics who produced many Olympic horses for a number of countries. Gaspari is noted as having very good balance, tempo and elasticity that he consistently passes on to his offspring. They have a saying in Sweden: "Buy any dressage horse you like, just make sure it has Gaspari in the pedigree."

Suzanne Thomas is excited about offering Bolero's bloodlines to US breeders and EU breeders and watching his legacy pass on to future generations.
