Bolero 897 was imported to the US from Sweden late Summer 2001. He offers excellent dressage credentials and bloodlines. His Sire, Bernstein 761, ranked third in gaits and sixth in conformation of 2000 BLUP stallions. Bernstein is the ranked seventh stallion according to total score in the 2004 BLUP. His Dam, Fairytale has two full siblings who have competed at Grand Prix dressage. Her Dam, Frida is a full sister to Miss Piaff who also competed Grand Prix.

Like father, like son, Bolero has proven himself as a sire. In 2006, Bolero ranked seventh out of 107 Swedish stallions in Sweden producing over 61% Diploma and Class I offspring. Twenty-two percent of this offspring received Class I or Diplomas in jumping talent. The ranking is based on the evaluation of three year olds participating in the "3 Year Old Test" in Sweden compiled for the years 1999 through 2005. Despite dwindling numbers of eligible offspring in Sweden due to his export in 2001, Bolero percentages moved up from the 2004 BLUP. Bolero currently ranks 18th overall in Diploma offspring.

Bolero placed sixth at the Breeder's Trophy finals in dressage at the age of five in 1996. The following year he moved up to fourth place. Bolero was first licensed in 1997. The test riders praised his gaits and ability. His canter received a 10! As a seven year old, Bolero made his first appearances at the FEI level. As a result of several good performances in Intermediare I and Prix St. Georges, he received his "Grade AB" stallion license in 1999 as well as his ASVH renewal for 2002.

Stallion committee comments: "Long lines; masculine stallion. Long well shaped neck, good shaped where the saddle is placed and long croup. Ground covering walk. Free in the shoulders in the trot with the hind legs put well underneath. Trot is very elastic and powerful."

Bolero sired 87 offspring in Sweden prior to his import to the US. The offspring have been well received by the Swedish inspection team and are making statements in performance outings.

Bolero's offspring continue to receive strong marks from the judges in Sweden. At the 2005 Breeder's Trophy, two five year olds by Bolero placed in the dressage finals! Boomerang (Bolero-Anart) placed 4th. As a three year old, Boomerang had placed 6th at the 2003 Swedish Young Horse Championships. Ruter Dam (Bolero-Lambert) placed 10th at the prestigious event. Bolero was the only sire with two progeny in the top ten.

Bozz (Bolero-Nurmi) placed fifteenth out of 39 starts in the hotly contested five year old Championship Final at the 2003 Swedish Young Horse Championships. The previous year, Bozz placed 9th at the Breeder's Trophy making him one of the top ten four year old horses in Sweden. Bozz with his young rider, Andrea Kjvnniksen is now part of the Norwegian Jr. Team. In 2005, they placed eighth in the Nordic Championship.

Helios (Bolero-Pandora) born in 2000 was sold from Sweden to Norway. At his 3 yr. Old Test, he received his diploma and was the best jumper present. He scored a 9 for jumping technique and ability and a 9 for jumping temperament and general impression. Helios and owner/rider Mette Ono-Njvten placed third in the 2005 Norwegian Breeders' Championship. The pair was selected to represent Norway in the 2005 World Championship for Young Horses in Verden where they placed 18th in the B-final. Their goals for 2006 are to return to the World Championships and medal in the Norwegian Breeders' Final in September

Other offspring in the limelight include "Boette" (Bolero - Raladriel) who received the high score of 52 points, the highest score among 3 yr. old mares inspected in Sweden in 1999. Also, a colt by Bolero which placed fourth in the final at Nordic Horse, the Swedish national foal show, 1998.

Bolero's offspring are making their way to the US. Owners and riders are impressed with their dispositions, trainability and gaits--a complete package!

Suzanne Thomas, Bolero's owner received the following letter about Biljard, a gelding imported by Hilltop Farm, Inc. for resale in the US:

Suzanne- Just wanted to let you know that I am the happy rider of a six year old gelding whose sire is Bolero. I can't tell you how lovely this horse is to ride and what a pleasure he is to have in the stable. He is always "happy" and is extremely tolerant of his training. Lateral work is easy for him, his canter is HUGE, walk is totally yummy, etc. Right now he is learning changes...not so easy, but will be beautiful when finished. All of us here love him and wish there were more of him.

Hope his dad is just as nice for you.

Leslie Urich is pleased with her import, Bolsjoj, 1998 gelding (Bolero-Landesf|rst) as well. The duo won the Third Level 2005 Amateur Champion and Reserve Champion at the Oregon Dressage Society Finals. In 2004, the pair placed fifth in the First Level at the highly competitive California Dressage Society Championships. At the USDF Region 7 Finals the same year, they placed seventh in the Great American/USDF Adult Amateur Second Level Horse of the Year division.

Bolero's first US born foal, Brio arrived spring 2005! Breeder Robin Ginn of Georgia is thrilled with her foal out of her Anglo-Arab mare Belle. In September 2006, Robin presented Brio as a yearling where he earned Class I status. He received a 9 on Type! Judges commented "well developed, long legged". He scored an 8 on Head, Neck, and Body with the judges wrote "well set neck, long withers, straight shoulder, good croup. Brio's canter was also given an 8; "good rhythm, good hind limbs, elastic, well balanced." Robin was intrigued at the judges request to keep Brio "in tact" until they see him again at age three. Robin is breeding back to Bolero this spring.

Suzanne Thomas is excited about offering Bolero's bloodlines to US breeders and watching his legacy pass on to future generations. Owners of non-Swedish Warmblood mares should know that foals out of eligible non-Swedish Warmblood mares and by licensed and approved Swedish Warmblood stallions are eligible for full registration.

Mare eligibility status is determined on a case-by-case basis. Most mares with full registration papers of acceptable breeds including Thoroughbred, Anglo-arab thoroughbred, Hanoverian, Holsteiner, Oldenburg, KPWN, Westphalian that can show a pedigree of at least four documented generations are eligible. For more information regarding registration eligibility contact SWANA at www.swanaoffice.org or telephone 505.835.1318.

If you have a Bolero offspring or know of one, we would love to hear from you!
